How a Wedding Singer Became a Tipi Entrepreneur

In the latest issue of Open Air – Outdoor Hospitality Magazine, Garden Weddings Founder Brett Jackson sat down to discuss his story, making the revelation that his transition to Tipi entrepreneur began with a career in music.

“I’ve always been self-employed” he revealed, before divulging his musical background. “Right after university, I established a recording studio, and late, a wedding entertainment business named 24 live, offering live acoustic and DJ services across Yorkshire.” The determination, get up and go and business acumen needed for all of these ventures and indeed gained from the experience, would all prove vital for Brett when he came to the world of tipi hire. But just how did that transition happen?

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. “Studying music production at uni and having a love of performing gave me my first introduction to the world of weddings”, Brett explained. He then went on to reveal how after a good number of years of service as a wedding singer he was introduced to Skipbridge Country Weddings. It would prove a monumental introduction as it was where he would meet his business partner and, now, fiancé Bronte Hall. With a shared passion for weddings the two now run the business, which Brett revealed got off the ground with an initial investment of just £30,000 split between him and his business partner. From such humble beginnings tiny acorns began to take root and become trees with solid foundations. One of the keys according to Brett was to realise that as part of a wedding planning service, the ownership of high-ticket items such as tents and tipis was enormously attractive to clients and this really triggered a dramatic upturn in fortunes for the business. The wedding singer world’s loss has been the tipi hire sector’s gain!
