CHLOE AND WAYNE’S SUN-KISSED CELEBRATION WAS FILLED WITH A RAINBOW OF BLOOMS AND RETRO-INSPIRED DÉCOR.
After a Christmas time proposal, Chloe and Wayne decided to opt for the very opposite setting for their wedding day: namely, a balmy Saturday in August.
A rustic-esque theme (with a riot of colour running through it) leant itself neatly to the couple’s picture-perfect venue, Cannon Hall Park, Museum & Gardens, with armfuls of wild flowers and foliage completing the look beautifully. The cherry on top? The bride’s jaw-dropping divine Savin London wedding dress, which featured applique blooms from top to toe. You’re going to want to pin this one…
A tipi in the grounds of the venue was the setting for Chloe and Wayne’s reception: think soft fairylights glowing against a dusky summer sky and you’ve only got a faint idea of exactly how magical it really was.

PROPOSAL
CHLOE SAYS: We got engaged on Boxing Day 2017. Every Boxing Day, my family’s tradition is to go to West Bretton (which is right next to Yorkshire Sculpture Park). It’s a really special place as it was a big part of my dad and grandparents’ lives and childhood.
Wayne and I were feeling pretty worse for wear (due to having one too many Snowballs on Christmas Day!) but we still stuck to the tradition and we all went as a family. As we got to the place where we always stop and take in the scenery, Wayne told me to look towards my family who had walked off ahead – each person was holding a sign. It didn’t click with me at first what they were holding but altogether it read: “Will you marry me?”
When I turned back around, Wayne was on one knee (probably kneeling in a cow pat…) – and then he proposed! He said he knew how close I was to my grandparents and as they weren’t with us anymore, he wanted it to feel like they were there.
SETTING
We decided to set a date for August 17th 2019. We had always wanted a summer wedding and as we are teachers, we needed it to be during the summer holidays. We really wanted it to be outdoors and August was our best chance of getting some sunshine – even with British weather!
We got married at Cannon Hall Park, Museum and Gardens. We wanted to have a relaxed outdoor wedding where everyone was well fed and watered and could just have a great time. We loved the idea of a tipi and knew this venue had just started working closely with Garden Weddings, who do tipi weddings.
I used to go to Cannon Hall when I was a little girl so it was quite nostalgic for me to go back there. We went to have a look and the guys at Garden Weddings showed us around and gave us lots of options for different ways to use the venue, which we loved. We decided to have the ceremony in the beautiful old deer shelter (which was an amazing location!) and then our reception in a triple tipi on one of the grassed areas.
THEME
We are not formal people so we wanted a relaxed wedding where people could just eat, drink and be merry! The styling was pretty rustic with wild flowers featuring a lot – lots of natural materials with hints of metallics. We made quite a few things for the wedding such as favours, bunting, sign posts, place settings and so on.
We didn’t really have a colour scheme beyond wildflower shades – pinks, purples, greens, whites, yellows… I knew my wedding dress had lots of different colours in it so I tried to bear this in mind when incorporating them into our decorations.
DRESS
My dress was the ‘Amelia’ by Savin London. I purchased it from Chloe Jayne Bridalwear in Howden; they were amazing at helping me choose!
I knew I wanted something with applique flowers, a deep neckline and that felt a little bit different. I only tried on a handful of dresses and I really hadn’t seen anything like this one before – and with it being silk, it was so comfortable to wear. It was actually very vintage and had an ethereal feel to it, which I loved.
GROOMSWEAR
Wayne wore a three-piece suit from Suits Direct. It was a deep red, navy and black tartan. He loves an accessory so he wore a dickie bow and braces with some Paul Smith oxblood shoes.
The groomsmen wore the same trousers as Wayne but with a navy jacket and braces; the best man wore the same suit as Wayne.
BRIDESMAIDS
My adult bridesmaids wore some gorgeous taupe-coloured long dresses with sequined tops from ASOS. My flower girls wore blue mid-length dresses from Monsoon kidswear.
BEAUTY
Stacey Crossley did my make-up and Kelly Warham-Cuss styled my hair. Both were recommended to me by family and friends. They did a fantastic job and I’ve never felt so beautiful!
TRANSPORT
We travelled from the hotel where we were staying to the venue. We hired a vintage bus for the guests from Yesteryear Vintage Vehicle Hire, which was cute. My car was hired from Laura’s Vintage Limousines.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Our photographer on the day was Emma McNair.
From start to finish, Emma was amazing. She was recommended to us and we really loved her style. We wanted photos that were relaxed and natural, and she understood the kind of day and photos we wanted, giving us advice and different ideas. Nothing was too much trouble and she went above and beyond to help us fully realise our day. She was patient with us and all our requests.
The engagement shoot was an excellent way of us getting used to the camera and to meet and get to know Emma. On the day she did everything to put us at ease, working so hard to get every type of photo that we could want. All of our guests commented on how lovely she was and how good she was at capturing the moment.
Our photos have come through and are more beautiful than we could have imagined. They let us relive our amazing day and encapsulate the day beautifully. We can’t stop looking at them! We’d recommend Emma to everyone.
STYLING
My bouquet was created by Sarah Chester at Botanicals Floristry. It featured a combination of different coloured wild flowers, including huge dahlias, a succulent and daisies. My bridesmaids each held a smaller version of my bouquet (which was fun for attracting all the mini-beasts!) and the flower girls wore flower crowns.
Botanicals Floristry did most of our decorations. I really wanted a lot of flowers! Sarah had a milk churn which she filled with blooms; we’re keen gardeners so we also filled one of our own old watering cans with flowers, which made a lovely feature. These were then moved to our tipi from the deer shelter after our ceremony, which was a handy way to keep costs down. We had jars of flowers down the aisle, too.
In the tipi, we had copper-coloured hanging hoops above the top table and a hanging oak in the middle both filled with flowers. The tables had a foliage runner down the middle with brass candlesticks. We had illuminated ‘Love’ letters on the dance floor. Candlesticks and illuminated letters were hired from Add Vintage.
We also included photos of family members who weren’t able to be at the wedding. These were placed on a vintage ladder, decorated with wildflowers.
BEST BIT
One of my favourite parts was having some time with Wayne, just the two of us, when we were having our pictures taken. It was calm and peaceful and just long enough for us to check-in with each other.
One of the Wayne’s favourite parts was chilling out around the fire with all our friends!
HONEYMOON
We went to Croatia for 10 days. We went to a Tui Sensimar hotel with a swim-up room. We were so tired after the wedding, so we just relaxed and ate! We had some really fun excursions to Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands, and also enjoyed white water rafting.
ADVICE
Don’t let the process of planning it stress you out! Make it suit you and not what other people think about it. For the grooms – make sure you leave yourself enough time to get ready on the morning of the wedding!
